We choose hotels for their architecture, light, atmosphere and editorial point of view — places that feel composed rather than corporate. Most of our reviews are independent design hotels and small luxury houses, with the occasional grand dame whose interiors still hold up.

How are these hotels reviewed?

Every review is written first-hand after staying at the hotel. Photography is shot on location by Splendid (or by the named photographer where credited). We do not publish hosted-stay listicles or sponsored placement.
