AMALFI COAST GUIDE
Splendid’s Guide to the Amalfi Coast for Design Lovers: A curated journey, captured through the lens of Splendid, along one of the world’s most visually captivating coastlines - where architecture, ambiance, and artful living come together in perfect harmony.
// Where to stay in amalfi: Miramalfi
There are places that seduce the eye and others that stir the soul - and then there are those rare sanctuaries, like Miramalfi, that do both effortlessly. Perched dramatically above the curve of the Mediterranean, this boutique escape is more than just a hotel. It is a quiet celebration of aesthetic purity, architectural harmony, and the enduring beauty of the Amalfi Coast.
A Dialogue with the Coast: Miramalfi’s design language is rooted deeply in its geography. Every arch, line, and curve reflects the coast’s elemental palette - the chalky whites of cliffside homes, the soft taupes of sun-bleached stone, and the endless gradient of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Interiors are deliberately pared back to let the view do the talking. Walls are whitewashed and luminous, echoing the local vernacular, while floor-to-ceiling windows pull in the sun-drenched drama outside.
Objects, Textures, and Stories: At Miramalfi, design isn’t just something you see - it’s something you feel. Linen drapes ripple like sails in the breeze, hand-crafted sculptures by local artist Paolo Sandulli, a soft, human touch, and the kind of coffee table book collection most can only dream of is thoughtfully placed throughout the hotel.
Playfully coloured tiles anchor the rooms with an earthy rhythm, while every element feels chosen, not styled. Nothing here feels mass-produced. This is a space where design choices are emotional rather than algorithmic. Miramalfi doesn’t chase trends - it’s timeless by design. Even the smallest details speak to this philosophy, from the abundance of Ortigia amenities to Marvis toothpaste stocked in the guest bathrooms - luxurious touches that feel personal rather than performative.
What’s most remarkable about Miramalfi is what it chooses not to do. There’s no excessive branding, no over-designed spaces clamoring for attention. Instead, there’s restraint, a quiet architectural humility that allows the natural beauty of the Amalfi Coast to take center stage. Miramalfi leans into its sense of place, drawing on old-world charm and Mediterranean heritage, yet everything feels fresh, modern, and effortlessly refined. It’s a space built to be experienced, not consumed. In a world of visual noise, it offers something truly rare: the quiet power of considered design, bathed in coastal sunlight and timeless spirit.

// What to See & Do
A Day at Sea: Charter a boat and set off to explore the breathtaking Amalfi coastline. Swim in the crystal-clear lagoon between the enchanting Li Galli islands and don’t miss the iconic Faragioni rocks or cruise along to dine at some of the coast’s seaside restaurants such as Maria Grazia in Nerano. It’s the ultimate way to experience the region - sun-soaked, scenic, and effortlessly chic.
Visit Ravello: A true hidden gem of the Amalfi Coast, Ravello is perched high above, suspended between sea and sky. Whether you're listening to a live classical concert at Villa Rufolo or simply soaking in the sweeping views from a quiet café, Ravello has a way of making you feel as though you've stumbled upon a secret - one you’ll never want to share.
Visit Positano: don’t miss the iconic Le Sirenuse; painted a firehouse red with white trimming, a paradisiacal property with mosaic terraces, elegant guest rooms, and terraces upon the Tyrrhenian sea where it feels like one could gaze upon the cliffside homes forever. It is a feast for the eyes from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave. Le Sirenuse is owned by the Sersale family, who in 1951, transformed their summer villa into a boutique hotel.
Visit Capri: Capri is one of the most cosmopolitan islands in the Mediterranean. A stroll down Via Le Botteghe reveals the island’s top boutiques-ideal for curating your Euro summer wardrobe or grabbing those last-minute travel essentials.
When it comes to shopping in the region, Capri is unmatched. The island hosts seasonal outposts of the world’s leading designer brands, making it a must-visit for anyone chasing resort style. The Prada store, in particular, offers a standout edit that feels distinctly Capri.

It’s zesty, delicate, and pure coastal indulgence.
La Caravella, In Amalfi town, a family-run, Michelin-starred institution with a storied past (Andy Warhol was once a regular). The signature lemon soufflé, often described as “sun in a dish,” captures the vibrant citrus essence of the region. What truly sets La Caravella apart, however, is the exceptional hospitality: when the team isn’t too busy, they’ll often invite guests on a charming behind-the-scenes tour of the wine cellar and kitchen - a gesture that makes the experience feel all the more personal and unforgettable.
Bar La Terrazza, located at Hotel Santa Caterina is a timeless Amalfi classic - perched high above the sea, where bougainvillaea frames every view and the scent of citrus lingers in the air. Don’t miss their signature cocktails, thoughtfully crafted with local ingredients and best enjoyed as the sun sinks behind the cliffs.
Pasticceria Pansa, For nearly two centuries, five generations of the Pansa family have upheld the art of caffeinating Amalfitans and travellers alike. Since opening in 1830 beneath the shadow of the Duomo, this beloved café has become a local institution-earning a place on the prestigious Locali Storici d’Italia list in 2001. Just steps away, the family’s gelateria tempts with artisanal gelato and sorbetto, crafted with the finest ingredients Italy has to offer.
Le Monzù, at Punta Tragara Capri is the destination that continues to draw discerning gourmets to Capri - and with good reason. With its Michelin star proudly reaffirmed, the restaurant is a celebration of refined Neapolitan creativity, Caprese tradition, and flawless technique.
