A look inside The 2024 edition of Art Basel Hong Kong 〰️
The 2024 edition of Art Basel Hong Kong, which took place from March 28 to 30, was a highly anticipated event in the art world. This year, it attracted an impressive 75,000 visitors, highlighting Hong Kong's significant role in the global art scene and fostering connections within the international art community. It was truly delightful to witness the participation of Australian Galleries like Station, showcasing remarkable works by talented Australian artists Shireen Taweel and Daniel Boyd. Reflecting on my experience at this year's fair, I sincerely hope it serves as an inspiration for you to join me at the upcoming Art Basel in Basel, commencing on June 13th.
Conversations WITH NATURE
Maison Ruinart unveiled the 2024 Carte Blanche
Maison Ruinart's 2024 Carte Blanche, titled Conversations with Nature, marks a significant evolution in the Champagne house's longstanding tradition of intertwining art and nature. For the first time, this initiative brings together six international artists—Andrea Bowers, Marcus Coates, Thijs Biersteker, Pascale Marthine Tayou, Henrique Oliveira, and Tomoko Sauvage—to collaboratively explore humanity's relationship with the natural world.
At Art Basel Hong Kong 2024, we had the privilege of experiencing a segment of this collective exhibition, which delved into the intricate interplay between water and sound. Among the standout installations was Into The Serpentine Bells by Japanese electro-acoustic artist Tomoko Sauvage. Renowned for her innovative use of water and sound, Sauvage's work captivated audiences by transforming the ephemeral nature of bubbles into a harmonious blend of organic and electronic sounds. Utilizing hydrophones and manipulating the water's surface, she crafted a sensory experience that resonated deeply with the theme of the exhibition.
Station
A Melbourne and Sydney-based gallery proudly presents the works of acclaimed Australian artists Shireen Taweel and Daniel Boyd, each offering profound explorations of heritage, identity, and cultural narratives through their distinctive artistic practices.
Remember
presented by Alex Israel and BMW
REMEMBR is an AI-powered, immersive video installation created by Los Angeles-based contemporary artist Alex Israel in collaboration with BMW. This innovative artwork invites participants to engage with their personal digital memories, transforming them into dynamic visual experiences.
The installation features seven custom-designed screens, each shaped like Israel's iconic self-portrait silhouette. Utilizing artificial intelligence, REMEMBR selects and combines images and videos from a user's smartphone, editing and synchronizing them to an upbeat soundtrack. The result is a two-minute "super-memory" that offers a poignant reflection on the user's life and experiences.
